My Review
final score
this review might contain spoilers, are you sure you want to read it?
Reveal the reviewI saw this one pop up on Vigloo, and I had a feeling it would be different. With its original plot and strong emotional undercurrent, I just had to check it out — and I’m glad I did!
Meet Our Unlucky Lovers
Delaney – Raised in a wealthy family obsessed with appearances and social status. Her love for Caleb was never accepted by her family, and when he went to prison, they forced her to cut all ties. But her feelings never faded. She even fought to get him out, proving her love ran deeper than anyone thought.
Caleb – A rising star in professional fighting, until dirty rivals framed him, landing him in prison. He lost everything, including Delaney. Believing she abandoned him, he carried that pain for years—unaware that she had been forced away. But despite it all, his heart never moved on.
Their story is tragic in the most frustrating way—torn apart not by their choices, but by everyone around them who decided they didn’t belong together.
That said… I do think Delaney could’ve tried more—some secret letters to Caleb maybe? She had already distanced herself from the family, so I kind of expected a little more from her during the prison years.
Let’s Talk About the Villains
There are quite a few people to be mad at in this one!
-
Jock – The guy who assaulted Delaney (and worse). Thankfully, he’s taken out early.
-
Jock’s Dad and Brother – The local Sheriff and Deputy. Corrupt, cruel, and above the law (at least for a while). It was infuriating to watch them act untouchable.
-
Kira – I still don’t fully understand her deal. She didn’t even seem to love Caleb, so where did all that hatred for Delaney come from? And the fact that she marries Archer? Make it make sense! She was openly nasty, but her marriage was accepted without question… yet Caleb, a respectful and loyal man, was rejected? That double standard made me want to scream.
Heidi, the MVP Bestie
Shoutout to Heidi, Delaney’s loyal and supportive best friend. She doesn’t have a huge role, but she’s steady and kind, always showing up when needed. We love a ride-or-die friend!
Pacing & Plot
One thing I appreciated about this series is the rhythm. The pacing felt just right — the romance was believable, and the subplots didn’t overshadow the main storyline. The drama felt earned.
My only lingering question: why exactly did Archer marry Kira? They seemed like complete strangers, and her role in the plot didn’t really have a satisfying conclusion. I’m not sure what purpose she served other than being unnecessarily mean.
Final Thoughts
This was a well-crafted, original story with a solid cast. I discovered some new faces I’ll definitely follow in future verticals. We need more series like this — fresh, emotional, and character-driven!
And one final message to Caleb: escargot tastes amazing! 🐌😉
