Love, Lies & High-Speed Romance

Diving into a New Vertical

It’s been a while since I’ve watched a series from ReelShort, but this one caught my eye. I’m not particularly into racing, but since it’s an uncommon theme in verticals, I was intrigued!

Meet the Main Couple

  • Lillian – From the very first scene, we learn a lot about her. She’s a hardworking woman, stuck in a toxic relationship with a cheating boyfriend. Despite the humiliation he puts her through, she stands strong and refuses to let him win.
  • Luca – A world-famous racing champion, billionaire CEO, and our classic swoon-worthy male lead.

Off to a Flying Start

The opening scene? Pure chaos.

Lillian’s wedding turns into an absolute disaster when she discovers her fiancé, Max, has been cheating on her—with none other than her so-called best friend, Ella. And if that wasn’t dramatic enough, the whole thing happens in front of everyone.

Ella, of course, planned it all because she needed to be the main character. Too bad no one likes her. As for Max? He wasn’t in on the setup at first, but once exposed, he quickly played along. The audacity! He even had the nerve to tell Lillian they should still get married, as if she was nothing without him. Newsflash, Max—she’s way better off without you!

Enter Luca, fresh from a big racing victory, showing up like a knight in shining armor—except, you know, in a racing suit. He’s loved Lillian since high school, and when she impulsively proposes, he doesn’t hesitate for a second. Just like that, the wedding goes from disaster to dream come true in a matter of minutes!

(One minor note, Luca—maybe ditch the hat next time? 😂)

Let the Lies Begin…

Of course, things couldn’t be perfect so soon. The real drama begins with Luca’s big lie.

To be fair, it started as a misunderstanding. Lillian had her own (incorrect) assumptions about what a world champion like Luca would be like. Instead of correcting her, he decided to… say nothing.

And then he kept saying nothing.

For way too long.

Luca had countless opportunities to tell the truth, but he stuck to his lie, making things worse with every scene. Yes, he worked behind the scenes to help Lillian and take down Max and Ella, but that doesn’t erase the deception. When you have multiple chances to be honest and still choose to lie? Yeah, I can’t be on your side.

And while we’re on the topic of things that don’t make sense, let’s talk about one of the biggest mysteries of this story: If Luca is such a global superstar—a world-famous racer with countless fans and the CEO of a massive company—how does no one recognize him?

Not Lillian, who supposedly knew him in high school.
Not Max, who seems to think he’s the most important person in the world.
Not even Ella, who is obsessed with social status and wealth.

It’s almost as if Luca is a secret agent rather than a racing champion. How does this guy stay so invisible while being that famous? 😂

The Third Drama Queen Appears

As if Max and Ella weren’t enough, enter Vanessa—the ultimate pick-me girl. She’s beautiful, sure, but her attitude? Insufferable. Her obsession with Luca is just embarrassing, and her delusions? Next level.

A Too-Easy Forgiveness

Waiting until the very last moment for Luca to finally confess was already frustrating. But what’s worse? Lillian didn’t seem to care at all.

No anger. No disappointment. No real reaction.

I didn’t want a breakup, of course, but after everything, I expected at least some emotional payoff. Luca didn’t even have to work for forgiveness—it was just handed to him. If it was going to be this easy, why even include the whole deception storyline?

One Last Thing…

Luca, my guy. You got married in your racing suit? Really? 😂 Some things might be a lost cause with you.

Final Thoughts

This was a sweet, easy-to-watch vertical with just the right amount of drama. The lead couple is adorable, and their long-standing crushes on each other make their romance even cuter. I love that they got a second chance at happiness!
