A Vertical Drama That Breaks the Mold

I wasn’t planning to watch another one today, but since I had a 24-hour subscription to KalosTV, I figured I should make the most of it. Then I realized it was also available on ReelShort, where I have a yearly subscription—but that’s on me! 😂

If I had to describe this one in one word: intense!

So much happens that by the end, it’s hard to keep track of every twist and turn. I won’t go into too much detail, otherwise, this review would be way too long (trust me, this is already my third draft!).

Not Your Typical Vertical Drama

What stood out the most is that this story doesn’t follow the usual vertical format. While it has some familiar elements, it blends so many twists and subplots that it creates something entirely fresh.

Instead of a single big secret leading to a grand revelation, the series keeps the drama coming—one conflict resolves, and another begins. Plus, instead of a traditional lead couple with supporting characters orbiting around them, we get four main characters.

Meet the Four Leads

  • Ariel – Our female lead, the classic good girl. She lacks confidence and even changed her appearance to fit beauty standards, though she’s naturally stunning. We like her!
  • Evan – The male lead. Popular in high school, handsome, talented, and someone who stood up against bullies. A genuinely nice guy, though a bit prone to jealousy.
  • Sienna – The drama queen, through and through. You won’t like her, but she’s resourceful—when Plan A fails, she’s already got a Plan B. By the end of the series, I think she was at Plan Z…
  • Dylan – The outsider. At first, you might root for him… but trust me, that won’t last!

A Past That Shapes the Present

One of the most interesting aspects of the series is that three of the four leads share a high school history filled with misunderstandings, betrayals, and hidden feelings. Ariel cut ties with Evan and Sienna after graduation, leaving many unresolved tensions. Now, years later, those past wounds are resurfacing.

Awkward Yet Hilarious Moments

From Ariel and Evan’s first reunion after seven years to the final (and very goofy) proposal, this series delivers plenty of awkward yet entertaining moments.

Of course, we still get some classic vertical drama tropes—like the infamous oops-my-towel-fell bathroom scene. Predictable? Yes. But do we still love it? Absolutely!

From Cutie to Meanie: Dylan’s Downfall

Sienna was the villain from the start, but Dylan? He started as a likable character before taking a sharp turn to the dark side.

At first, he seemed like a sweet guy with a crush on Ariel, and he definitely made Evan jealous. But then… red flags everywhere! His decision to team up with Sienna was my first warning sign. If you truly like someone, why align with the mean girl to win their heart?

Then karma hit—literally. A stomach “punch” later, and Dylan started making all the wrong choices. Lies, manipulation, and his ultimate betrayal of Ariel sealed his fate. From that moment, I was so ready for his downfall!

Natural Beauty Wins in the End

Thankfully, Ariel and Evan find their way back to each other, clearing up all the misunderstandings. About time! My head was spinning with all those twists.

One thing I loved was Ariel’s return to her natural self—glasses and curly hair included! Despite her self-doubt, she looked stunning, and it was heartwarming to see Evan fully support her decision. After all, this is the girl he fell in love with in the first place.

But I have to say—this was a sweet romance, yet we never got a proper kiss between the leads. What happened?! If the actors were uncomfortable, I totally understand (maybe an intimacy coach could’ve helped?), but if it was a creative choice… why? Only a small peck? The proposal scene was already awkward (she didn’t even say yes outright), so ending without a kiss left something missing. Was it just me?

Final Thoughts

I really enjoyed this series! There was so much happening that I had to rewatch a few scenes to fully grasp everything—but at least I was never bored.

As for the cast, it was refreshing to see new faces, and I can’t wait to watch them in future projects. Tina, in particular, was fantastic as the shy and insecure lead, but I’d love to see her in a strong female role next.

One last note for streaming platforms: please start including end credits! Since I was unfamiliar with these actors, I had no idea who played whom. Luckily, I recognized Luke, and he helped me figure it out (thanks again!), but actors and crew deserve proper recognition. Even in promotional posts, the platforms rarely tag the cast or director—not cool!

And lastly… is it just me, or does Preston really look like Andrew Garfield? 🤔
