My Review
this review might contain spoilers, are you sure you want to read it?
Reveal the reviewThis series has been on my watchlist since its release in late January. I had only seen one other series with Liv, so I was curious to see her again. And with Sarah in the cast, I knew I had to watch it! But unlike their dynamic in Submitting to My Best Friend’s Dad, their relationship here is completely different.
Meet the Three Main Characters
Sebastian – Our rich and handsome CEO of the day! But unlike many Vertical drama CEOs, he actually works for his company. He’s preparing a major merger deal, and to my surprise, he’s also quite the romantic—which is rare for this type of character. Bonus points for that!
Vanessa – The new employee, a hardworking and genuine young woman trying to earn enough money to pay for her mother’s medical bills. She’s sweet, but maybe she falls in love a little too quickly.
Ruby – Our drama queen, and the classic gold digger. She married Sebastian and now refuses to let go of him—or his money. She’s determined to make his life miserable and take every penny she can.
A Love Story With a Twist
At first, I thought this would be a classic romance with a bit of drama. And in some ways, it is. But what makes this series stand out is Ruby.
Most of the time in these dramas, the gold digger is just trying to seduce the rich CEO, or their families force them together. But here, Sebastian already made the mistake of marrying her. Now, she’s clinging on, refusing to sign the divorce papers. This extra layer of conflict and manipulation makes the drama even more intense. And with Sarah portraying Ruby, you know she’s going to be deliciously despicable.
But she’s not the only villain in this story.
Bruno – A dangerous mafia heir, not just your typical jealous ex or scheming businessman. He’s a real threat, and Vanessa soon finds herself threatened by him.
A High-Stakes Game
Everything in this story revolves around the merger—a crucial deal for Sebastian’s company. Until the contracts are signed, he must avoid any scandal.
At first glance, it seems simple—just stay low-key until the deal is done. But things spiral out of control thanks to:
- A crazy soon-to-be ex-wife
- A gorgeous new assistant
- A ruthless mafia heir
With these three wild cards in play, what should have been a smooth business move turns into absolute chaos.
Ruby: More Than Just a Gold Digger
Ruby isn’t just a money-hungry opportunist—she’s a full-blown psychopath! At first, you think she’s just another spoiled woman trying to milk her divorce for all it’s worth. But she’s actually dangerous.
Her killing Bruno? I did not see that coming!
My Only Complaint
If I had one little disappointment, it would be how quickly Sebastian and Vanessa got together. Yes, they met years ago, but they never actually spoke before. Their instant connection felt a bit rushed—I would have loved to see Vanessa fall for him more gradually.
But overall, their relationship is still sweet and enjoyable to watch.
A Special Mention
Before wrapping up, I have to mention Vanessa’s best friend—though I somehow missed her name! She’s played by Leona, who I first saw in a Vertical series where she played a total psycho.
It was refreshing to see her in a kind and supportive role this time!
Final Thoughts
This is a classic Vertical drama, but the strong cast makes it truly enjoyable.
✨ Liv was great, though I’d love to see her in a stronger female lead role next time.
🔥 Sarah is always perfect as the villain, but I do wonder—will we ever see her play a nice lead role one day?
🎭 Jarred delivered, as always! His portrayal of Sebastian felt more realistic than his previous roles, which I really liked.
Overall, a fun, dramatic, and engaging series!
