🌊 I Was Waiting For This One… And It Did Not Disappoint!

From the moment I heard “Kyra + Mermaid,” I knew I had to watch it — and wow, she absolutely delivered! This is the very first US-made mermaid vertical drama I’ve seen, and it instantly earned a spot on my favorites list.

Kyra Wisely shines as Marina, a mermaid princess forced to survive in the human world after sacrificing her magic orb to save Sebastian. What I loved most? Marina isn’t just beautiful and graceful — she’s smart, she’s witty, and she adapts to her new reality without losing herself. She even talks back when needed, especially to Chelsea, who definitely had it coming!

🐚 Let’s Talk Characters

🧜‍♀️ Marina: Clueless about the human world at first, she quickly learns the ropes. Whether it’s taking down Chelsea with words or learning to stand on her own, she’s got that perfect mix of charm and resilience. Kyra was born for this role — the comedic timing, emotional beats, and the whole mermaid energy? Flawless.

👑 Sebastian: The human heir who saves Marina. He’s sweet, kind, and clearly out of his depth with everything going on — but he really cares about Marina. Still, and I mean this with all the love… I’m #TeamKai.

🐬 Kai: The true hero in my opinion. Kai loves Marina deeply, but when he realizes she doesn’t love him back, he lets her go. That’s real love — not that toxic “if I can’t have you no one can” energy we’ve seen in so many other Verticals. Kai deserves his own happy ending (preferably with a cool mermaid of his own — spinoff, anyone?).

🎭 Chelsea: Our classic Drama Queen. She’s delusional and obsessed with a man who doesn’t love her. It’s painful to watch — not because she’s a villain, but because it opens up a larger conversation. Why do we see so many female characters forcing love where it doesn’t exist? We’ll save that for a FanTalk soon…

💬 Final Thoughts

This story had it all: magic, romance, betrayal, emotional sacrifice — and of course, a sparkling pearl of hope. The CGI might not match the higher-end Chinese productions, but honestly? It didn’t matter. The heart of the story and the performances more than made up for it.

Kyra was made for this role. If you love whimsical fantasy with emotional core, strong characters, and a bit of humor, you need to watch this Vertical. (By the way the original title “Tides of Destiny” was so much better!)

This is one of those verticals where I purposely kept the review light on spoilers — it’s best experienced with fresh eyes. You’ll laugh, you’ll tear up, and you’ll fall in love.
