Reveal the reviewA Missed Opportunity in Tech-Driven Storytelling
I hesitated before writing this review because I had high hopes for this one. As a web developer, I was excited to see a story centered around my field—finally, something relatable!
The cast did a solid job in their respective roles, but unfortunately, the story became dull rather quickly. Some scenes dragged on with little action, making it feel slow and uneventful. The biggest issue? A lack of subplots. While some Verticals go overboard with drama, this one did the opposite. A balance would have made the story more engaging.
As for the romance—it was barely there. I understand that love wasn’t the central theme, but it’s a Vertical, and I always expect at least some romance to be woven in effectively. Here, it felt underdeveloped and unmemorable.
One thing that did make me laugh, though, was the code displayed on their screens. I’m no cybersecurity expert, but what they showed had nothing to do with fighting an active hack. More like preparing a nice little form. 😆 Most viewers wouldn’t notice, but as a developer, I couldn’t help but pause and take a closer look. One day, I hope to see a show that gets this right—or even adds a little Easter egg for the tech-savvy audience.
On the bright side, I enjoyed seeing Francesca in a different role. She wasn’t exactly a “mean girl” but more of a shallow character who made poor choices. Also, this was my first time watching Tiffany in a Vertical, though I’ve followed her YouTube channel for over a decade! She was the reason I gave this one a shot, and I’ll definitely check out her other projects.
Conclusion
I liked the overall concept and would love to see more tech-related stories in Verticals. However, this one didn’t fully explore its potential and felt too plain. Next time, let’s have more drama—and definitely more romance!
